About Bikefit

Our motto is simple.

Get fitted to your bike and get fitter on your bike. We offer a wide variety of services. Bike fitting is one aspect of our Cycling Analysis services in which we take a complete inventory of your cycling with the end result of your bike position fitting your needs, or having all the information and measurements necessary to purchase a new bike.

Our Strength & Conditioning classes provide the base for your indoor activities to enhance your physical fitness and cycling, so that when you ride your bike, your comfort and performance increases.

We are providers of the Spinning® program. One Spinning® class won’t make you fit but regular participation will improve your outdoor cycling ability, teach you control of your exercise intensity and allow you to exercise without impact on joints.

We also offer personal training, heart rate based training, and other services, all targeted to enable you to achieve your fitness goals from losing weight and increasing overall health and quality of life.

For people who are totally inactive we are providers of the GP referral scheme. The scheme works in conjunction with your doctor to provide you with a 12 week stepping stone to changing your lifestyle and taking control of your health and exercise.

James O’Donnell

James is a qualified personal trainer and spinning instructor; holding several qualifications:

  • American College of Exercise Personal Trainer, 2006
  • Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Leisure Management, Waterford Institute of Technology, 2005
  • Diploma in Recreation & Leisure, Sligo Institute of Technology, 1999
  • Cycling Ireland Coach
  • Spinning registered Instructor
  • Advanced level Bike fitting technician Serotta International Cycling Institute 2009 and 2010
  • Qualification in S.A.Q Speed Agility Quickness
  • Local Co-Ordinator for exercise under the GP Referral Scheme 2011

A fitness enthusiast all his life, James utilises knowlesdge gained from his extensive qualifications, as well as experience to date, with competitive athletes and his health and fitness related clients.

James’ strength comes from his personal background in education linked with his achievements in the sports field. He has overcome asthma using alternative methods, and competes nationally as an amateur cyclist: an indication that every obstacle can be tackled. James has also expertise in endurance based events, having cycled the USA Coast to Coast, 3000 miles in 25 days and completed numerous National Council for the Blind elite challenges, six Tour de France stages, Malin to Mizen and Gael Force Adventure challenge 2008. James has also coached a number of athletes in these challenges all with great success, most recently 3 clients completed the L’Etape du Tour stage of the Tour de France in 2011 in the French Alps last year. For 2012, James is training a group of 15 individuals to complete this year’s L’Etape du Tour while also co-ordinating the groups charity drive for the LauraLynn Foundation Children’s Sunshine Home.

James has worked with professional cycling teams from Norway, USA, Australia and with the Irish National team in the FBD Insurance Rás and the Tour of Ireland 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Whether your goal is to lose weight, improve your health or fitness, or to train for a specific event, James focuses on a fitness regime that is specifically tailored to your lifestyle, needs, and requirements to meet your goal.

As well as personal training, James operates the leading spinning studio in the West of Ireland with classes for all levels of fitness. He also operates a number of periodized training programmes for runners, tri-athletes, and fitness enthusiasts.

James also works with teams and individuals within a team, to develop their programmes for pre, post, and during the competitive season.

A core element of James’ training philosophy is to ‘keep it real’.

James has been performing bike fittings for over 5 years.

Clients from all forms of cycling have enjoyed the benefits of a fitting, from victory in National Races, completing elite endurance events and reducing the risks and enhancing the benefits of cycling post major surgeries. James performs bike fittings at Bikefit.ie Oranmore.
